Purpose

Web site monitoring enables you to analyze your Web sites and allows you to examine not only the technical aspects such as the availability and performance of Web servers and Web sites, but also user behavior on individual Web sites. Using the data gained from Web site monitoring, you can eliminate weaknesses in your Web site.

Web site monitoring consists of a range of predefined analytical options for determining visitor numbers, server capacity and performance, as well as identifying errors.

As well as merely determining the number of users, you can determine the number of pages viewed (page impressions) and the type and amount of data downloaded. You can also identify the sites from which they reached your Web site.

Data on server performance enables you to draw conclusions about configuration of the Web server or the completeness of data replication. Where server performance is insufficient, the quick and simple elimination of performance killers increases user’s acceptance of your Web site.

To summarize, Web site monitoring answers the following questions:

· How high is the load on my server?

· Where do the faulty links occur?

· How quickly is a Web site sent to a user?

· From which Web sites do users arrive at my site?

· How successful were E-mail or banner campaigns?

· How frequently do visitors use my Web site? Are the users regular users?

· How long do users stay on my Web site?

· How do users navigate through my Web site?

Prerequisites

You have released your Web server for log files.

Process Flow

1. Customer navigates through Web shop

Customers navigate through your Web shop and perform certain actions.

2. System writes clickstream information into a Web log file

The system records information on a Web site using standard Web log files. The system records the customer’s activities in chronological order (clickstream).

3. System extracts and saves Web log information

The recorded data is extracted and saved and can be analyzed in SAP BW.

4. Monitor technical status of Web shop

You can also generate a report on the technical status of the Web shop.
Result

By using Web site monitoring, you can identify weakness within your Web site (for example, faulty links) and optimize your site using direct measures (both technological and user-oriented measures).
